In honor of our new, supersized Retro Collection, we decided to throw it back by uniting two classics: Our Retro coolers and ‘80s backyard pool skating.
Bowl skateboarding emerged in the late ‘70s, blew up through the mid-‘80s, had a resurgence in the ‘90s and today still continues to be popular among many generations of skaters. And since our Retro Collection includes coolers we resurged from the same timeline (‘80s/’90s), we’re giving you a glimpse of what skating backyard pools was like in the ‘80s (from the hunt for the empty backyard pool to taking turns skating it) — with our Retro coolers in electric watermelon along for the ride.
We captured it all on video with our pro skateboarder buddies Chris Gregson, Greyson Fletcher, Tristan Rennie and — get this! — STEVE ALBA, the Godfather of Pool Skating (he’s the originator of finding backyard pools, draining/cleaning them and shredding them) who earned pro status over 35 years ago.
