Barrel of Fun: 3 Drink Recipes for Summer

READY TO PARTY LIKE IT’S 1992?

You need to snag the Barrel of Fun jug (if you haven’t already), our newest member of the Retro Collection—coolers we originally released back in 1992 that earned pop culture status (if you don’t recognize them, we promise you know many people who do).

Just like back in the day, the neon yellow, magenta and teal Barrel of Fun captures the epitome of ‘90s vibrancy and fun: It holds up to two gallons of water or any other drink you want to keep cold (thanks to the insulated interior)—we recommend making a big batch of something tasty you can share because the easy-pour spigot makes Barrel of Fun party-ready.

We’ll even do the work for you. Here are three Igloo-approved drink recipes—including one non-alcoholic, family-friendly version—that’ll take you almost no time to create yet make you the life of every party this summer.

Barrel of Fun Beergarita

BARREL OF FUN BEERGARITA

Ingredients:
1 Barrel of Fun
6 (12-ounce) cans/bottles of Mexican beer
24 ounces of tequila
3 (12-ounce) cans of frozen limeade (defrosted)
Crushed ice (for serving)
Lime wedges (optional)
Coarse salt (optional

How to make it:
Pour all three liquids (beer, tequila and limeade) into the Barrel of Fun, and mix it well. Just add ice to your cup before pouring. That’s it. But if you want to pro it up a bit, run a lime around the rim of your cup, dip it in a dish of salt, then pour in your Beergarita. Tasty.

Igloo Punch

IGLOO PUNCH

Ingredients:
1 Barrel of Fun
16 cups fresh watermelon juice (from one large seedless watermelon)
4 cups lemon juice (fresh or store-bought)
4 cups simple syrup
8 cups gin
Fresh mint sprigs (optional garnish)
Ice

How to make it:
Cut the watermelon into chunks. Use a blender to liquify the chunks, then pour the liquid through a fine-mesh strainer so you end up with just the juice (no solids). Pour the watermelon juice, lemon juice, simple syrup and gin into the Barrel of Fun, and mix it well. Pour over ice and add some mint for even more flavor. Mmm, the perfect cool-off cocktail for a hot summer day.

Chilly Cucumber Spritzer (Non-Alcoholic)

CHILLY CUCUMBER SPRITZER (NON-ALCOHOLIC)

Ingredients:
1 Barrel of Fun
Ice
3 two-liter bottles of lemon-lime soda (diet or regular)
3 (12-ounce) cans of frozen limeade (defrosted)
3 cucumbers, sliced
Lime wedges (optional garnish)

How to make it:
Throw some ice into the Barrel of Fun, then add the soda, frozen limeade and sliced cucumbers, and mix it until the limeade is fully melted. If you have the time, let it sit in the fridge for an hour or two before serving so the cucumber flavor really settles in. Pour into a cup, squeeze in a bit of lime and sip. Ahh, refreshing for the entire crew, littles included. (Of course, this recipe can always become an adult beverage by stirring in your alcohol of choice—we recommend vodka).

Enjoy! (Responsibly, of course.)
