REPREVE™: From Recycled Plastic Bottles to Eco-Friendly Cooler
Discarded Plastic Bottles Have Transformed Into Our New Cooler Bags
We like to say, “good times always happen around a cooler”, but we also know it’s crucial to take special care of the planet that provides us the incredible locations where we can continue to have these good times.
Through our Igloo ECOCOOL initiative, we’re actively finding new ways to lower our impact on the environment. We’re driven to offer sustainable products and use materials that are biodegradable, recycled or have properties with a very low environmental impact.
Some exciting things are in the works (stay tuned!), while we’ve already made others happen, like creating RECOOL, the world’s first fully biodegradable cooler—our way of replacing those troublesome single-use coolers made with harmful foam.
GOING MORE EARTH-FRIENDLY WITH REPREVE™
We’re continuing the momentum. Today, we released our line of recycled coolers!
REPREVE softsides are made from recycled plastic bottles. YES, the same plastic bottles people throw away that would otherwise end up in the landfill or ocean. Sad fact: Just in the U.S., 35 billion plastic bottles end up in landfills every year and can take up to a thousand years to degrade. Our goal is to recycle one million plastic bottles by 2022—and with REPREVE, we’re well on our way.
With each cooler style made with REPREVE performance fiber (from a lunch pail to a spacious backpack, check them all out here), we’ll help remove 9 to 19(!) post-consumer plastic bottles from circulation that would have polluted the Earth.
Watch the video below to get a closer look at the collection in action with Thea Merritt, an advocate for sustainability, founder of the Eco Now shop in California and a friend of Igloo.
By making REPREVE your go-to cooler bag, you’ll help us reach our goal to recycle one million plastic bottles by 2022, move all our fabric to recycled materials by 2023 and become the most environmentally friendly cooler company on earth!
